Photo Ops and living in a vacume

Meow  everyone.

A few days ago, on Decmber 13 and in to December 14, OCAP , one of the poverty pimp organizations here in Toronto and the OFL staged a photo op event to try and show the plight of those who are without homes . Now let me be very clear here. The issue of persons without homes is a very serious issue and it effects us ALL in one way or another. However, this is NOT a license to exploit those persons for personal gain.

So, on the evening in question, Sid Ryan , the head of the Ontario Federation of Labor decided to come  out and spend a night outside to ” understand ” the plight of those without homes. What a noble cause. Well, as with everything he does, its about the photo ops and little to do with anything else, sadly. Here  he is , out there as one of those persons without a home:

By the way, I could not help but notice your designer glasses, while those less well off than you are lucky to ever, even  have glasses. I  could not  help but to notice your nice jacket. I’m sure it kept you nice and warm, unlike those who likely don’t have a jacket to begin with . By the way, was that chair you were sitting on comfortable for you ?  Well , at least you had one to sit on , unlike those who are without homes have. In fact Mr. Ryan, a piece of wet cardboard is usually what is the only barrier between the person and the concrete. How did you eat this night ? I’ll bet you didn’t do  any dumpster diving did you ? No of course not, it would have ruined your designer clothes. Glad actually that you didn’t dumpster dive because it allowed those without home to scrounge some food that  you may have discarded earlier in the day.  By the way, what did you wash your meal down with? I’ll bet you didn’t use a old styro foam cup you found  now did you ? Was it a bottle of 1952 Bollinger  ? I hear the ’59 is better but then I wouldn’t know. In fact, many are lucky to be able to get to the Don River to drink river water . I could not help but notice how clean you look. I’ll bet you have a really nice , warm shower at home, unlike those without homes who may not be able to shower for days. You know, you have really nice teeth, unlike many persons without home who don’t have any teeth  because they can’t afford dental care . Oh ya , I’ll bet you didn’t have to deal with a ticket for pan handling did you ? Well, OK, maybe Irwin who is next to you  spotted  you a quick grand to hold you over until the morning.  Speaking of Irwin, it was nice to see that you at least had a buddy to cover your back, unlike many who live on the streets  are beaten up daily. Oh ya, how did you get there by the way? I’ll bet that you didn’t have to walk for miles, it would have ruined those designer shoes for sure.

Tell me Mr. Ryan, out the persons who are without homes, how  many did you put there? You and your unions  make  outragous   and unrealistic demands that  force companies to  have to lay off workers , forcing many onto the streets because they lose their homes and families. Don’t worry though, I am sure that your huge salary , i hear its about $350,000.00 a year, from the union dues will cover your lifestyle pretty well, don’t worry about the rest of us.  Don’t worry that those families will not be able to provide their kids with a decent education because your demands outweigh reality. Hey, Sid, do you know that you make more in one week based on that salary, than those who are lucky to  even get Ontario Works  have to live for the entire YEAR ?  But yes, you hate the 1% . Right, got it, we believe you.

Oh, Mr Ryan, how’s your health ?  I’ll bet its far better than the health of those you used as a  back drop for your self promoting photo op. I could not help but notice those nice manicured finger nails , that nice well care for skin, really, a prime example of good health … unlike those who are without homes. Lastly Mr. Ryan, you make a very   good salary doing what you do, photo ops and speaking, more photo ops,  I wonder, did you think of springing for a meal for everyone who was there with that night ? Hell, there were about 75 people there , times  say, twenty bucks a meal , hell you would have had enough of your weekly paycheck left to take that stretch limo to the opera, or home.  I mean come on, it would have been good PR and a smart business move as you would have been able to write it off as a business expense. Wait, the plight  of those without homes is really just another photo op for you isn’t it , because you see sir, if you REALLY cared, I mean REALLY REALLY cared, you would not have been in the spot  light but rather, you would have used your influence to get these people a place to stay, some food, warm cloths , decent health care … but, you do look good in pictures.

So, from those of us who are struggling to make ends meet, thanks for nothing. Don’t tell us that you understand what we deal with because you don’t  understand shit.
