  • How stupid can a person get ………..

Hello  my human friends. Every once in a while we all get to see some people who do the stupidest things, yesterday for example, was one such sighting. I was prowling about town when come upon a person on a bicycle who ran a red light, and gets stopped by our finest, who issues the cyclist a ticket for running a red light. Now remember that the laws of the road apply exactly the same to cars , trucks , motorcycles and bicycles . The bicycle rider went into a hissy fit and ripped up the ticket and threw the remains on the ground . The police officer was calm and cool , an dthen issued him another ticket for littering.  LOVE IT. So , there is a moral to this story… traffic laws apply to  EVERYONE …. be nice and polite with the police, they have a job to do to protect all of us  and lastly, if you do get a ticket for anything, accept it graciously and deal with it later. Being a dork will not work in your favor.

  • CFS referendum war plans?

This is something I scratched in my litter box . It is from 2008 but one must wonder how much of what we heard from those who denied having anything to do with this referendun in BC were telling us the truth.

Well , lets just have look at this :

CFS battle plans for referendums and ……

this is based on 2008 but the names are pretty much the same with exceptions . See anyone you know here :

The CFS battle plans for referendums are here at :

Do any of these names loo familiar at all ? What about dates, times, locations ?

  • CKLN and CRTC ruling

Meow everyone, you will recall that I posted a detailed link to the CRTC / CKLN hearing . Well, a decision has been reached and here it is :

    http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2011/2011-56.htm

Read the testimony as well and see who is directly responsible for this fiasco .

What? Want to read more ? OK then …

“… The Ryerson Student’s Union pays a large portion of the CKLN operating budget, by extracting mandatory dues from students, who have absolutely no say or representation in the operation of CKLN.

In this sense, a bit of justice has been done for Ryerson students, who are being rent-seeked on by a bunch of neo-Marxists who’ve effectively taken over the student radio station for their own political agenda, and pretty much limited all student involvement in the station.

This has been going on for years, of course. If the RSU leadership itself, was itself not a Marxist cabal, stacked with slate candidates by it’s parent Marxist organization, the Canadian Federation of Students, something might have been done about this a long time ago. … “

  • Oh my, look what I found in my box of cat treats today

Meow  everyone, today, I share with my human friends some really yummy cat treats about RSU coruption and payola . The numbers represent the paragraphs the documents quote from .

4443   Reviewing the public minutes from the group claiming to be CKLN Radio Inc. from March of 2008 to February 2009, which I have already provided, shows RSU’s direct conflict of interest. The open presence of Toby Whitfield, then the Vice-President of Finance at Ryerson Student Union, attending meetings, the only purpose of which was the planning of various strategies designed to bankrupt CKLN, force out opponents, and take over the corporation, is beyond dispute.

4444   RSU had claimed that Toby Whitfield was merely an outside observer. However, the contents of these minutes clearly show that Tony Whitfield is a voting member who agreed to consult on their behalf with Ryerson’s student unions’ attorneys.

4445   Furthermore, Tony Whitfield acted on their behalf by pressuring student Board members, signing off on attempts to seize CKLN’s bank accounts, and cancelling insurance policies.

4446   Toby Whitfield openly booked rooms for the purpose of these meetings, in Ryerson Student Union’s name, while at the same time denying rooms or security to CKLN’s legal Board of Directors, management and volunteers.

This places CKLN Radio Incorporated perpetually at the mercy of Ryerson Student Union and Toby Whitfield, who is now the Ryerson Student Union President, allowing them to withhold the CKLN student levy whenever they choose. These are not the actions of a neutral party that Ryerson Student Union claims to be.

4454   The truth of the matter is that Ryerson Student Union did not have oversight powers over CKLN and no right to become involved in its governance or to encourage the takeover of a federal corporation they did not own.

4455   Another one of Andrew Lehrer’s unsupported claims is that allegations of payola are “unprecedented” at CKLN. This problem has existed at CKLN for decades. CKLN Management, other volunteers and myself have seen money change hands in exchange for airplay and on-air plugs. I was even asked by management to listen in on phone conferences from promoters and artists who paid money to on-air hosts for promises of airplay.

4620   It seems that when the RSU could no longer be assured of getting their way at CKLN, they turned their attentions to fomenting and encouraging a rebellion, advanced by their loyal adherents, including CKLN paid staff, along with their dupes and cronies within the membership.

If CKLN had a modicum of independence in the past, it has surely been lost now. Despite all the denials by both the board of CKLN and the RSU, the facts are plain, I believe. The RSU and the PALIN Foundation control CKLN.

4628   The executives of the Canadian Federation of Students allied entities Ryerson Students’ Union, the PALIN Foundation and CESAR have a fortress mentality. Whatever entity exists inside what they consider to be their sphere must toe their line.

  • With RSU elections coming up, here are a few to know about YOUR student union ” leaders ”

Who is REALLY running YOUR STUDENT UNION elections? Too bad Mr. Whitfield is not spending as much time working for RYERSON students as he is for the CFS  and THEIR objectives

Harassment, intimidation, and race-baiting are among the complaints brought to the chief returning officer in the UTSU elections, Dave Blocker. Exec candidates are nearly tied for demerit points, with 56 for Change U of T and 55 for Stronger Together, as of Wednesday, March 17. Two board of directors candidates for Change, Jasmine Attfield and Michael Luczak, each have 15 demerit points.

Stronger Together was assigned demerit points for intimidation and aggressive questioning by Anisha Thomas, an ESSU exec, and other supporters; supporters campaigning in unauthorized areas; and improper posting of campaign materials.

The Change slate was given demerits for two candidates intentionally misrepresenting facts. They were also penalized for showing up to a meeting on Friday, March 12 that the CRO deemed to be a Stronger Together campaign strategizing meeting; for registering a complaint about contents of the email invitation that was forwarded to them; and for a video of the meeting taken by Antonin Mongeau, a vocal UTSU critic and EFUT (the French club) alumni chair.

Blocker wrote in two rulings that he was holding the Change slate responsible for Mongeau’s actions, deeming Mongeau a Change supporter. Steve Masse, the presidential candidate for Change, was docked 25 points for going to the meeting Friday. He has a total of 28 demerit points; candidates with 35 points are disqualified.

As of press time, members of the Stronger Together slate and campaign have not responded to phone calls and emails from The Varsity. alt text

    Non-U of T campaigners

Toby Whitfield, Ryerson Students’ Union VP finance and services and president-elect, is campaigning for Stronger Together for the second year in a row. In March 2009, Whitfield told the Eyeopener, a Ryerson student newspaper, that he was campaigning because he was friends with the incumbent slate. Darshika Selvasivam, VP campaigns and advocacy at the York Federation of Students, has also been spotted campaigning for Stronger Together. Change campaigners are all U of T students, according to Masse.

Student union leaders from campuses that belong to the Canadian Federation of Students, an umbrella lobby group, have campaigned at each other’s campus elections. In 2008, Maclean’s reported that YFS president Hamid Osman had left Toronto during the York University strike to participate in a CFS-Ontario campaign to have U of O students join the federation. Also in 2008, York University student newspaper The Excalibur reported that Osman and two other YFS execs were seen campaigning in RSU elections for the Renew slate. In 2009, the CFS-Québec deputy chair-elect, Noah Stewart-Ornstein, was shown in a video tearing down seven campaign posters during elections at Concordia University.

Mongeau has accused Whitfield of tearing down EFUT posters. Mongeau has posted a video that shows EFUT posters in the trash and Whitfield walking away from the bulletin board outside Sidney Smith with a poster in his hand, but the grainy video does not clearly show Whitfield tearing down posters. Whitfield has not responded to queries from The Varsity.

Mongeau has a rocky relationship with UTSU. He was voted off the UTSU Clubs Committee in January 2009. Two months later, Mongeau was reprimanded by the CRO at the time, Lydia Treadwell, for hosting a debate while campaigning for the Change slate, though Mongeau disputed the ruling. Mongeau has graduated from U of T. alt text

    Levy: Rye deserves audit explanation

    2009-12-01

Some of Ryerson’s top executives are calling on the Ryerson Students’ Union (RSU) to explain to students the details of an audit reviewing the union’s operations conducted earlier this year. Months after the scathing $85,000 audit by Deloitte & Touche, there have been few changes. The review, paid for by the university, looked into governing policies and the health and dental plan, calling on the RSU to clean up its act. Ryerson’s president Sheldon Levy said that although the university isn’t owed an explanation, the students deserve one. “It does not necessarily mean they have to accept the recommendations but in any type of business audit, you respond to the community under which you serve,” Levy said. “I do think that in an audit, those that paid their salaries and bills deserve a response.” Julia Hanigsberg, general counsel and secretary, echoed Levy’s point. “You would expect that they would be clear with at least the directors of the RSU about how they plan to respond to the recommendations,” Hanigsberg said. “It doesn’t mean they have to follow every [recommendation] but we expect transparent process about what they’ve found.” Toby Whitfield, the RSU’s vice-president finance and services, said they are only recommendations. He adds that some have been implemented such as the new time frame for opt-out cheques pickup and having separate accounts. “[Students] hold us accountable by going to the polls and voting, when they come to general meetings and set the direction of the organization.” Deloitte found that election policies and procedures are rife with inconsistencies. It suggested switching to online voting instead. This vote was considered in 2008 but failed to pass. Deloitte added that politicking and personal agendas take priority over serving students, leaving little room for opposing opinions. It suggested an un biased general manager to be overseer. Deloitte added the RSU can’t use unclaimed opt-out cheques to fund other RSU initiatives and losses, which is current practice. Tighter budget control is needed to avoid unnecessary cash shortfalls and loans. This year, the RSU is running an $84,000 deficit. The audit also refers to poor recordkeeping for health and dental opt-outs so the RSU should take extra steps to notify students to pick up their cheques.

    Ryerson Student Union

Meanwhile at Ryerson University, where yet another pro-CFS slate ran called Students United, the EyeOpener reported that some students’ votes were not kept secret. “Voters were supposed to place their ballots in an unmarked envelope and then in another with their name and student number on. This process was meant to keep voters’ identities anonymous, but [student groups director Idil] Omar says this wasn’t the case. ‘That’s not how they did it on the day. We had to put our names on the first envelope and our student number. They specifically told us to do that,’ she says.”
